There are 5 wellknown beaches which all consist of white sandy beaches and clear turquoise waters: Hadicurari Beach is located south of the lighthouse and is well-known for the fantastic snorkeling. Palm Beach has a very calm sea, and is located near the best hotels of the island. Eagle beach is a public beach where also the locals go. Rodgers beach has a great sea for surfing. Baby beach is located on the south eastern end of the island, and is known for the calm sea and beautiful beach which is ideal for children. | | Windsurfing | Aruba has fantastic windsurfing, thanks to consistently strong trade winds. The favoured surfing spot for experienced surfers is Fishermans Hut, north of Palm Beach. | | Diving and Snorkeling | There are many possibilities for diving and snorkeling near the reef that runs along the Aruban coast. Yachts offer coastal cruises including snorkeling and swimming stops and are also available for private charters. | | Natural bridge | The island's most visited and photographed attraction is the natural bridge, located on the north-east coast. Sadly, the long rock bridge fell into the ocean after centuries of pounding by the surf. It was the highest coral structure of the Caribbean and the most photographed object of Aruba. There are plans to pay a tribute to this famous part of the island’s history. | | Caves | Aruba has a golden history as many pirates used the caves of Aruba as a hiding place and buried their treasures in them. Many of the caves along the south-east coast can still be explored. The Guadirikiri Cave is famous for his two chambers where sunlight creates a beautiful atmosphere. The other famous cave is the Fontein Cave, which has Arawak paintings on the ceilings, made by Indians. | | Arawak culture | Arawak remains can be found in several parts of the island, including Fontein cave in the Arikok National Park. An ancient Indian village is still being excavated at Tanki Flip. Artifacts can be seen in the Archaeological Museum in Oranjestad, and gives clues to the customs of daily and ceremonial Arawak life. | | Museums | There are several museums in Aruba. The historical museum offers a fascinating collection of articles from the island's earliest times through early Spanish and Dutch periods, and onwards to present times. The Numismatic museum shows over 30.000 historic coins from Aruba and around the world. The Archaeological Museum contains ancient artefacts of the early inhabitants of Aruba, including the Arawak Indians. |
