Tourism Attractions
The capital of Gambia is Banjul. The city lies on an island at the mouth of the River Gambia, separated from the mainland by a narrow creek. Because of these natural borders, the city was unable to grow. Therefor it has a kindly ambience. The city Serekunda is the largest town of Gambia. It is the city of trade of the country. The centre of the city is one big market. The village Albreda, near to Banjul, is interesting because of the fortified slavering station originally built by the French in the late 17th century. The Abuko Nature Reserve has amazingly diverse vegetation. It is nourished by a stream that runs through its centre, allowing both riverside and savannah species to flourish. The park also boasts a wide variety of birdlife well as a small animal orphanage. The Atlantic Coast resorts of Gambia are Bakau, Fajara, Kotu and Kololi. In this area are activities like swimming sailboarding, water-skiing, kneeboarding, golf and sunning popular. Other interesting activities in Gambia are fishing, cycling, football (soccer) and birdwatching. |
