The capital city of Germany is Berlin. This city is the heart of the country through grand public buildings, glorious museums and theatres. Remainings of the Berlin Wall can be found here. The city Munich has many fine museums and a number of graceful gardens. The city has a Mediterranean temperament. Frankfurt on the Main is an important trade city of Germany. Next to the offices, Frankfurt has also got picturesque houses of the beautifully restored Romerberg in the city centre. This is the birthplace of Goethe, one of Germany's greatest poets. The city of Heidelberg is well known for its gothic-renaissance castle. The city Lubeck is a glorious medieval town in Germany's northernmost state, Schleswig-Holstein. On the north-western coast of Germany, the Frisian Islands can be found. Most of this area is a national park. Activities that can be done in this area are strolling, horseriding and cycling. The Harz Mountains poke up in Lower Saxony. Activities like hiking, cycling and cross-country skiing are popular in this area. The mountains of the Black Forest are also popular for hiking and skiing. Other interesting activities in Germany include boating, sailing and windsurfing. |
