The capital of Iceland is Reykjavik. The city is of interest, because it is the worlds northernmost capital and it has established itself in the late 19th century. Reykjavik has all the trappings of a modern European city as well as an interesting old town, whitewashed wooden buildings, and rows of brightly painted concrete houses. A well-known hotspot, the Blue Lagoon, is found near Reykjavik. In south central Iceland, there is a two-tiered waterfall, Gullfoss. It is a national monument. Just west of Gullfoss is Geysir, an area of spouting hot springs. In northeast Iceland we find a region called Myvatn. This area of volcanic or geothermal topographical features is considered one of the natural wonders of the world! Iceland has the world greatest glacier, the Vatnajohull glacier.
