The capital of Israel is Jerusalem. This is the sacred city for Jews, Muslims and Christians. The city is divided into three parts: the walled Old City, where most of the sights are; the predominantly Arab East Jerusalem; and the rapidly expanding new city, known as West Jerusalem. The Old City is also divided, into Armenian, Christian, Jewish and Muslim quarters.The city of trade is Tel Aviv. Some of the best beaches in the Middle East are to be found in this place. The Dead Sea is interesting, because it is possible to float in the water. Also the area around the Dead Sea has interesting aspects like Ein Gedi, an oases, a lush area of freshwater springs, waterfalls, pools and tropical vegetation and desert wildlife. Masada, a fortress atop a sheer-sided plateau, was the last stand of the Zealots; Jewish rebels who rose against the Roman Empire in 66 AD. The region Galilee has different green valleys, verdant forests, fertile farmland and the Sea of Galilee. The city of Bethlehem is said to be the birthplace of Jesus Christ. Eilat and the Red Sea are popular for scuba diving. Other interesting activities in Israel are hiking, horseriding, swimming, windsurfing, sailing, waterskiing and diving.
