The capital of Italy is Rome. This city is filled with history, legends and monuments of the Roman Empire. The city of Florence is also filled with culture and history, in a very pleasant ambiance. The city of Pisa is world famous because of the Leaning Tower. Venice is an interesting city, not only because of the fact that it is built on 117 islands, but also because of the harmonious architecture. Milan is the city of trade of Italy. It is famous for its fashion industry and therefore interesting for shopping. The city of Naples is mainly interesting because of the nearby treasures of Pompei. Pompei was the thriving resort town for wealthy Romans, that was buried under ash and mud during the devastating eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. The island Sicily offers an interesting stay, with both culture and beaches well represented. The island Sardinia has the Costa Verde coastline with beautiful beaches. The Amalfi Coast, stretching from Sorrento to Salerno, is one of Europe's most beautiful coastlines. This part of Italy is interesting for windsurfing and sailing. The Dolomites, spurs of the Alps, are interesting for hiking and skiing. Other interesting activities in Italy are cycling, trekking and horseriding. |
