Jordan - Practical information 
 
VisaAll foreigners need a visa to enter Jordan. One can get one at the border or airport when arriving, or from consulates before departure. Visas are valid for two weeks from entry, but can be easily extended up to three months. Cost depends on where you are from. Keep a passport on you whenever you are near the Israeli border, as there are lots of military checkpoints.

HealthVaccinations
There are no particular risks, but one should consider vaccinations for hepatitis A and B, typhoid, polio and tetanus and diphtheria. A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required from travellers over one year of age coming from infected areas. Rabies is present. For those at high risk, vaccination before arrival should be considered. If you are bitten, seek medical advice without delay. Please contact the nearest vaccination centre before departure.

Water and Hygiene
Water that is not bottled should never be drunk unless it has first been boiled. Milk should not be consumed unless bought in a container stating that it has been pasteurised. Only eat well-cooked meat and fish, preferably served hot. Vegetables should be cooked and fruit peeled.
Health CareHealth insurance is recommended. There are excellent hospitals in large towns and cities, with clinics in many villages.
CommunicationThe international access code is 962. The outgoing international code: 00. For emergencies one can call with the following telephone numbers: First Aid and Ambulance: 199, Police: 191 and Fire Brigade: 199 or 461-7101.
MoneyThe currency in Jordan is the Jordaniar Dinar. If you would like to know the most recent exchange rate for this country's currency, go to the Oanda website. Foreign currencies can be exchanged easily in banks and bureaux de change. Most hotels also provide exchange facilities. American Express and Visa are widely accepted, whilst MasterCard and Diners Club have more limited use. Traveller cheques are accepted. To avoid additional exchange rate charges, travellers are advised to take travellers cheques in US Dollars. Banks are open from 08:30 till 12:30 and 15:30 till 17:30 Saturday to Thursday. Hours during Ramadan are 08:30 till 10:00, although some banks open in the afternoon.
