HealthVaccinations
Travellers from countries infected with yellow fever are required to get a vaccination against this disease. Recommended are vaccinations against Hepatitis A, diphtheria , poliomyelitis and tetanus. Rabies is present. For those at high risk, vaccination before arrival should be considered. Please contact the nearest vaccination cantre before departure.

Water and Hygiene
It is generally considered safe to drink tap water, however it is best to use bottled water for drinking. Be very selective about marine fish and avoid river fish. Make sure all meats and shellfish are well cooked and preferably served hot. Fresh, well-cooked, hot food from clean restaurants and food stalls is the safest option.
Health CareSmaller towns and rural areas have private clinics. Government hospitals serve the local population, not foreign visitors, except in emergencies.
CommunicationIn case of emergency one can call 999. This number is valid for police, medical, fire, and other emergencies. The international access code for Malaysia is 60.
MoneyThe currency of Malaysia is the Ringgit (R), or Malaysian dollar. Currencies can be exchanged easily in the main tourist centres. Visa, MasterCard, Diners Club, and American Express credit cards are accepted at hotels, shops, and restaurants. Banks in Malaysia are linked to international banking networks, which allow you to withdraw money from overseas savings accounts through ATMs.
