Kathmandu is Nepal's capital and largest city. Although it is increasingle modern, this city has a fascinating history. Kathmandu has a historical centre with a lot of squares and temples. Kathmandu's core is Durbar Square. Patan is the second-largest city in the Kathmandu Valley. This city is known for its Royal Palace, the Jagannaravan Temple, the Golden Temple (a Buddhist monastry) and the Kumbeshawar Temple. Bhaktapur is the most medieval city in the Kathmandu Valley. This city has a lot of buildings in the architecture dating from the end of the 17th century. The city of Pokhara is renowned for its setting. Its quiet lakeside location and proximity to the mountains make it an ideal place for recovering from (or gearing up for) a trek. Interesting activities in Nepal include trekking to different Himalayan Mountains (for example Mount Everest), rafting, kayaking, mountain biking and safari in the Terai. A range of language, spiritual, medicinal and yoga courses can be taken in Kathmandu and at various temples and monasteries. |
