The capital of Portugal is Lisbon. The main attraction of Lisbon is the Mosteiro dos Jeronimos. The construction began around 1502 and was completed towards the end of the century. Today it is the principal remainder of Manueline architecture found in the city. The city of Porto is the second city of Portugal, home to the alcoholic beverage port. The city of Sintra was favoured for a long period of time by Portuguese royalty and English nobility as a summer destination. Its appeal is still evident today, its thickly wooded setting and romantic gardens are an ideal destination for a vacation. The walled city of Evora is one of the architectural gems of Portugal. Situated in a landscape of olive groves, vineyards, wheat fields and brilliant spring flowers, it is a charming town. The city of Lagos is one of the most popular tourist resorts. Most visitors are drawn to the superb beaches. The wilderness park, Parque Nacional da Peneda-Geres, has a spectacular scenery and a wide variety of flora and fauna.
