Sri Lanka has many beautiful beaches were sun bathing, excellent snorkelling and scuba diving, sailing and surfing are possible. The hill country of Sri Lanka is worth a visit. There are many cities and villages which are build on the hills of Sri Lanka which can be visited. Sri Lanka has some nice ancient cities and furthermore the many national parks are nice attractions.

Activities

BeachesThere are many beaches in Sri Lanka. An example of a beach on the north coast is Jaffna. This beach has a kind of beauty that is different from the rest of the island. Its beaches and coralline coast, off shore islets, and the peninsula can be an experience for the traveller. Not to be missed are the sand dunes of Manalkadu a miniscule desert. An example of a beach on the east coast is Nilaveli. All water sports are available here. Whale watching in the sanctuary is a speciality. An example of a beach on the west coast is Beruwela, this beach marks the beginning of a 130 km. stretch of beach where one can bath in many bays all year round.
ColomboColombo is a fascinating city, not only for a comfortable blend of east and west, but also for a cosy mixture of the past and present. It is still the commercial centre of the country. Colombo has been a flourishing seaport for centuries. Attractions worth to visit are the many buddhists temples, the parliament building, parks, zoo, museums and art galleries.
Sinhala KingThis is the hill capital of Sri Lanka. The city is the most beautiful town of the country. It is next to Colombo and is Sri Lanka its most visited place. The focal point of the town is the golden roofed Dalada Maligawa where the Sacred Tooth Relic of the Buddha is enshrined.
MihintaleSituated 11 kilometres east of Anuradhapura is Mihintale, this place is regarded as the cradle of Buddhism in Sri Lanka. The rock is dotted with shrines. A grand stairway of 1840 steps made of granite slabs, leads to the summit with its splendid view of the surrounding countryside.
YapahuwaThis ancient fortress and capital was built in the year 1301 and lies approximately 145 kilometres from Colombo. Many traces of the ancient battle defences can still be seen, while an ornamental stairway remains its biggest showpiece.
Adam PeakAt the top of a rock is a huge footprint, claimed by Muslims to belong to Adam.
MuseumsThe national museum is situated in Colombo. The museum is best known for its collection of antiques. Another museum is the Dutch Period Museum situated in Colombo. The museum embodies the unique architectural features of a colonial Dutch town house.
