Sweden - Things to do

Tourism Profile

Sweden is the third largest country in western Europe. Because of its long, narrow shape and northerly location, the landscape is highly diversified. The ever-varying Swedish coastline stretches for thousands of kilometres, from Haparanda on the Finnish border high up in the Gulf of Bothnia, all the way to Norway and the North Sea to the west. The Swedish landscape features countless lakes and waterways, surrounded by vast pine and spruce forests in the north, mixed with romantic oak, birch and other leafy forests further south.Sweden has majestic mountains and glaciers, as well as wide-open countryside, interspersed by small idyllic villages and vibrant cities such as the capital, Stockholm.

Activities

Hiking and TrekkingFor those of you who want to witness the magical midnight sun, we recommend travelling far up north to Abisko. That is where the magnificent 425 kilometre long Kungsleden (the King's trail) starts.
FishingSweden is a paradise for the angler, with the lure of giant fish, unspoiled countryside and clean, unpolluted waters.
HorsebackridingSweden has one of the highest numbers of horses per head of the population in Europe and there is a deeply rooted tradition of high quality horse management and breeding. It is said that no other country in the world has as healthy horses as does in Sweden because of the strict regulations regarding animal welfare.
SkiingEvery winter more and more foreign tourists travel to the Swedish mountains. They are enticed by excellent skiing in stunning surroundings, copious amounts of snow, excellent food and a friendly atmosphere. Skiers that like a challenge can choose from areas such as 'Are', 'Riksgransen' and 'Hemavan'. Or why not take a skiing excursion to 'Kebnekaise', Sweden's highest mountain?
Sleeping in an ice hotelDarkness fills the room. Lying completely still in your sleeping bag you listen to the silence. Or rather, the sounds of silence. You can experience this in the ice hotel in Sweden.
StockholmStockholm charms the visitor, with its very own fusion of old and new, traditional and contemporary, urban and pastoral, sophisticated and earthy, all within convenient walking distance of the centre.
