Venezuela's capital Caracas is situated in a picturesque valley on the north coast. The city is a bustling metropolis. Some parts of Caracas have retained its historic character and there are some interesting historic buildings to be found like the plaza Bolivar, Santa Capilla, Palacio de Miraflores and the sacred Panteon Nacional. The city of Coro is situated on the Caribbean coast at the base of the Peninsula de Paraguana. Coro has some of the best colonial architecture in Venezuela. In 1950 the historic town centre was declared a national monument. The pleasant, friendly town of Merida is nestled in the mountains just 12km (7mi) from the country's highest peak, Pico Bolivar. This is a popular tourism destination. Venezuela has about 40 national parks with good possibilities for trekking. The northeast coast is the place to go for snorkeling, scuba diving, fishing, sailing or just lying around and enjoying the sun at the idyllic beaches. Other Interesting activities in Venezuela include trekking, mountaineering, hill trekking, rock climbing, hang gliding and paragliding. |
