| Visa | A passport is required by all nations and must remain its validity for at least 1 month after expiration date of visa. A visa is required by all nations, except transit passengers continuing their journey within 24 hours provided holding return or onward tickets. At present visas can be issued for either groups or individuals. Validity of a visa is 1 month from date of entry. Visas can usually be extended for another month, at extra cost, in the larger towns. Recommended vaccinations are diphtheria, tetanus, poliomyelitis en hepatitis A. Typhoid is recommended if your stay is longer than two weeks. Malaria is present. Water and Hygiene All water should be regarded as being potentially contaminated. Water used for drinking, brushing teeth or making ice should have first been boiled or otherwise sterilised. Milk is not pasteurised and should be boiled. Powdered or tinned milk is available and is advised, but make sure that it is reconstituted with pure water. Avoid dairy products that are likely to have been made from milk that isn't boiled. Only eat well-cooked meat and fish, preferably served hot. Pork, salad and mayonnaise may carry increased risk. Vegetables should be cooked and fruit peeled.
Medical Care There are hospitals in major towns and cities and health care centres in all provinces but facilities are limited everywhere. An increasing number of outlets accept Visa and MasterCard. Check with your credit card company for details for merchant acceptability and other services which may be available. Traveller's cheques are widely accepted in hotels and banks. To avoid additional exchange rate charges, travellers are advised to take traveller's cheques in US Dollars.
